Last year I made it my goal to travel more around the country that I live in. Kenya is so diverse and beautiful and I feel like so many of us that live in Nairobi often go to the same places and do the same things instead of trying something new...
At the beginning of last year my best friend and I took a trip to Lake Magadi. Along the way we were flagged down by a beautiful old Masai woman who begged us to take her water containers to the lake with us and fill them up for her.
The village was suffering due to the drought and they had no access to clean water.
Since then I've been back to visit her and her lovely family 3 times. They welcome us with open hearts and I feel blessed to be able to have this experience.
The last time I went I stayed for 2 nights, lay under the stars, bathed in the trickle of a stream and laughed for hours on end.
What I've learned from the Masai is generosity. Every time I take them something they share it around even it's something small and make sure everyone is involved. I want to be more like that in life.
I urge all you Nairobians to explore Kenya more because there is so much beauty on our doorsteps.
